Master Promissory Note

If your financial aid award includes a Federal Direct Subsidized and/or Unsubsidized Stafford Loan, you are required to sign a Direct Loan Master Promissory Note in order to finalize your loan(s).  In addition to signing a Master Promissory Note, the student must also complete Direct Loan Entrance Counseling.  Failure to complete both of these steps could result in the cancelation of your federal student loan(s).

All first time loan borrowers at MMA are required to fulfill this requirement.  Once a student has completed the Entrance Counseling and signed the Master Promissory Note, there is no need for the student to repeat this process in future years at MMA.

Go to and log in using the box located in the top right section of the page.  You should log in using your (student) FSA user id and password (the same one that you used to file your FAFSA each year).

For the Promissory Note:  Once you have signed in, choose the “Complete Master Promissory Note” option and follow the on screen directions that follow.  This is your promise to repay the Department of Education.  Federal Direct Loans are in the student’s name, and therefore must be signed by the student.  It is against the law for anyone other than the student to fraudulently sign a Master Promissory Note for that student, even if they know the student's log in credentials.   This is a very important step in securing  your loan(s).  Once you have completed the process, you should print a copy of the MPN for your records.  The MMA Office of Student Financial Services will receive an electronic notification that you have successfully completed this step.

For the Entrance Counseling: Once you have signed in, choose the 'complete entrance counseling' option and follow the on line instructions to complete the counseling session.  This counseling will provide the student with important information about borrowing through the federal student loan program.  Our office will receive an electronic notification when the counseling has been completed.  Students are encouraged to maintain a copy of the confirmation that they receive once the process has been completed.

Parents who are borrowing through the Federal Direct Parent PLUS Loan program must also sign a Master Promissory Note to finalize the PLUS Loan.  Be sure to follow the link for signing a PLUS Loan Promissory Note rather than a Federal Direct Promissory Note.

If you have any problems completing these steps, please contact the MMA Loan Coordinator, Marissa Barros at 508-830-5222 or
