We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Boiler SME to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of boilers and their operation, maintenance, and repair. This engineer will support our loss prevention and loss analysis around materials failure and structural analysis primarily on high pressure and black liquor recovery boilers (BLRBs) sometimes referred to as chemical recovery boilers.

Further this would offer some level of forensic engineering. This role would also add expertise and direction to our needs around design analysis, inspection and auditing of black liquor recovery boilers and high-pressure boilers used primarily in utility and power generation and large industrial manufacturer to include chemical operations, the pulp and paper industry, and other complex high hazard operations. Additionally, this will support our efforts regarding fitness-for-service (FFS) and remaining useful life (RUL).

Provide technical support and guidance for the operation and maintenance of all boilers and connected systems.
Utilize engineering principles, theories, and concepts to develop solutions and recommendations to reduce risk associated with machinery and pressure vessel property loss prevention.
Assess engineering drawings, operational standards, and regulations related to the equipment, and recommend implementation of changes to ensure compliance.
Create detailed reports and documents that outline recommendations for reducing risk and maximizing safety.
Update and maintain records of findings and progress related to risk analysis and safety initiatives.
Monitor industry trends and stay abreast of new regulations and best practices related to machinery and pressure vessel property loss prevention.
Participate in meetings with related departments to disseminate information, educate on safety topics, and provide feedback from risk-assessment projects.
Provide guidance and support to other staff members in the use of risk-management tools and processes.
Coach and train other staff members on loss prevention related to boilers and systems as needed.
Interpret national and international standards and regulations regarding safety and make recommendations accordingly.
Work with project engineers to define preventive and predictive maintenance plans for boilers and systems.
Plan inspection and repair of corroded equipment and systems.
Ensure boiler pressure and vessel integrity is maintained and all safety requirements are met.
Monitor proper operation and performance of boilers and systems and identify areas for improvement.
Assist with safely and efficiently troubleshooting, diagnosing, and resolving complex high-pressure boiler and black liquor recovery boiler issues.
Identify potential areas of improvement, analyze data, and recommend actions to improve system performance.
Contribute to the development of standard operating procedures and maintenance schedules.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Ability to travel as needed.

Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field or, relevant equivalent experience.
10+ years of industrial experience in the field as a pressure vessel and balance of plant engineer or technician, highly preferred. 5 Years industrial experience in the field as a pressure vessel and balance of plant engineer or technician is the minimum considered.
Must be knowledgeable of Black Liquor Recovery Boiler designs, operations, and maintenance.
ASME codes and standards experienced in the troubleshooting and repairs of boilers and systems.
The successful candidate will be expected to review fitness-for-service (FFS) and remaining useful life (RUL) assessments as required.
The ideal candidate should have experience in forensic engineering and be familiar with relevant industry standards and regulations.
Ability to interpret and read technical drawings and schematics.
Must be detail-oriented and have excellent problem & troubleshooting skills.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with departments and personnel.

The hiring range for this position dependent on final grade and title is $130,700 to $187,800 USD. The final salary offer will vary based on geographic location, individual education, skills, and experience. The position is eligible to participate in FM Global’s comprehensive Total Rewards program that includes an incentive plan, generous health and well-being programs, a 401(k) and pension plan, career development opportunities, tuition reimbursement, flexible work, time off allowances and much more.
